The astrological life of Bitcoin

1. The natal chart

Ten bodies, 9 major aspects, and a centre of gravity so obvious it barely needs an astrologer: 4 of the 10 planets sit in Capricorn — Sun, Mars, Jupiter, Pluto.

The reading

A cardinal-earth chart, and Capricorn is the whole story. Five of the ten bodies are in earth signs and five are in cardinal signs, and the pile-up is in one place: Sun, Mars, Jupiter and Pluto in Capricorn. Capricorn is the sign of structure, scarcity, patient accumulation and rules that are not negotiable — and whatever one thinks of astrology, it is a genuinely strange coincidence to find on a protocol whose defining features are a hard supply cap, a difficulty adjustment, and an issuance schedule that halves on a timetable no one can vote to change. An astrologer reading this chart blind would say: this thing's nature is to enforce a limit.

Sun conjunct Mars at 7.91°, with Mars conjunct Pluto at 4.25°. The identity of the chart is welded to its most combative planet, and that planet is welded to Pluto. Sun–Mars–Pluto in Capricorn is the signature of something adversarial by construction — built to survive attack rather than to be liked, and constitutionally unable to ask permission. It is also, in classical terms, a hard chart: Mars is exalted in Capricorn, and it is the loudest thing here.

Mercury conjunct Jupiter in Aquarius/Capricorn. Mercury at 2°48' Aquarius is the chart's messenger sitting in the sign of networks, and it is tied to Jupiter — expansion of a message. This is the evangelism: a chart that cannot hold an idea quietly.

Saturn in Virgo retrograde, opposite Uranus at 2.44°. This is the one placement that is not really Bitcoin's — it is the world's. The Saturn–Uranus opposition was the aspect of 2008–2010, the standing argument between the established order and the thing trying to break it, and Bitcoin was born inside it with Saturn retrograde and losing the argument. Read plainly: institutions under strain, the disruptor in the ascendancy, and a chart whose birth environment was a banking crisis. The genesis block's own coinbase message says the same thing in English.

The two tightest aspects in the chart are both minor ones — Venus semisextile Jupiter at 0.69° and Saturn quincunx Neptune at 0.76°, both tighter than anything the majors manage. The second is the one worth sitting with. A quincunx is the aspect of two things that cannot be reconciled and must be adjusted for forever — here, structure and dissolution, the ledger and the dream. Bitcoin has spent its entire existence being two incompatible things at once: rigid accounting and speculative reverie. If you wanted one aspect for that, this is it.

The Moon at 4°33' Aries, square Mars at 1.05° — the tightest major aspect in the chart — and square Pluto too. The Moon is the mood, the public, the crowd. In Aries and squared by both Mars and Pluto, the crowd around this chart is volatile by nature: fast, hot, reactive, prone to panic and to euphoria in the same week. Note that the Moon moves about 13° a day, so it is the one placement that would move meaningfully if the timestamp were wrong. Here it cannot be. That is the payoff of a chain-signed birth moment: the fastest body in the chart is as certain as the slowest.

2. The life in transits

We swept every day from the genesis block to 24 Aug 2026 — 6,443 daily samples — and recorded every moment Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, Neptune or Pluto came within 1° of an exact aspect to a natal planet. That is 209 passages, 40 of them from the three slowest bodies. The sweep stops at the present on purpose: this page reads a record that has already happened, and dating a future aspect next to a price chart would be a forecast however it were captioned.

2009–2011 · Born inside someone else's crisis

Bitcoin's first years are dominated by the aspect it was born under still playing out. Uranus opposed natal Saturn through 2009, twice exact — the world's argument continuing over Bitcoin's own Saturn. Then Pluto crossed natal Mars across 2010–2011 in three passes, and Uranus crossed the natal Moon from mid-2011 into late 2012. An astrologer would call that last one the arrival of the crowd: Uranus over the Moon is the moment a private thing acquires a volatile public. There is no exchange price for most of this era to set it against — Bitstamp's series does not begin until 18 Aug 2011 — and we are not going to invent one.

2012–2015 · Uranus on the Sun, then Pluto on the Sun

The two heaviest contacts of Bitcoin's young life fall here, back to back. Uranus square the natal Sun ran from July 2013 to November 2014 in three passes; Pluto conjunct the natal Sun ran from March 2014 to November 2015, also three. In a human chart a practitioner would describe transiting Pluto over the Sun as the single most transformative transit available — an identity taken apart and rebuilt — and Uranus square the Sun as the shock that starts it. That four-year window contains the December 2013 top at $1,132, the Mt. Gox collapse in February 2014, and an 84.9% drawdown into January 2015.

It is a genuinely arresting fit, and it is exactly the kind of fit this page exists to be careful about. We tested it. Pluto and Uranus contacts to natal planets were among the 17 pre-registered hypotheses in Study 01, and across the full record they did not beat the base rate. A striking coincidence in a window you chose after the fact is what a null result looks like from the inside.

2016–2020 · The long Neptune years, and a Jupiter return

The middle of the record is Neptune's. Neptune sextile the natal Sun spans 2017–2018; Neptune conjunct natal Uranus runs 2019 into 2021 in four passes; Neptune opposite natal Saturn runs from mid-2020 to the end of 2022 across five. Neptune is the planet of narrative, faith, mania and fog, and an astrologer would read a Neptune-heavy half-decade as the years the story ran ahead of the substance — in both directions. Saturn also crossed natal Mars through 2018, three passes, which is the textbook description of a year of grinding attrition.

And on 18 Dec 2020 Bitcoin had its first and only Jupiter return: Jupiter back on its natal degree at 29°34' Capricorn, for the first time in the roughly twelve years it takes. Jupiter's return is traditionally read as the opening of a new cycle of growth and reach. What actually followed is in the price chart below, and you may draw whatever conclusion you like — provided you also read what happened when we tested it.

2021–2026 · Pluto works through the Capricorn stellium

Pluto has spent this whole era walking the Capricorn stellium one planet at a time. Pluto conjunct natal Jupiter ran 2022 to late 2024 in four passes, and Pluto conjunct natal Mercury began in May 2024 and is still in orb at the cutoff after five passes. We deliberately do not tell you when it next perfects. Meanwhile Uranus trine the natal Sun ran mid-2021 to April 2022, and Neptune square natal Pluto ran from May 2025 to March 2026. Pluto sextile the natal Moon is the other contact still in orb at the cutoff.

The honest interpretive summary of this era is that a slow planet has been sitting on this chart's money-and-message planets for four years — which is what Pluto does when it transits a stellium, and which will be true of every chart with planets in the early-to-middle degrees of Capricorn. Bitcoin is not special in receiving it. It is only special in that we know its degrees to the second.

3. The solar returns

Each year the Sun comes back to exactly 13°31' Capricorn — Bitcoin's birthday, in the technical sense. We solved for all 17 instants by bisection against the ephemeris; each is accurate to well under a thousandth of a degree, and each was re-checked against the live engine. They land in the first week of January and drift a few hours a year, as they must.

Read as a run rather than one at a time, the returns say something the individual charts do not. The return Moon — the year's mood, in this technique — lands in a different sign almost every year, which is the ordinary behaviour of a body that moves 13° a day against a return instant that drifts only six hours. Any reading that treats each year's Moon sign as a meaningful annual verdict is reading a calendar artefact. The parts that do carry from year to year are the slow planets, and those are already the transits in section 2. This is a real limitation of solar-return work and it is rarely stated.

4. Against the record

Here is what actually happened, from real data. 5,486 daily BTC/USD closes from Bitstamp's public OHLC API, 18 Aug 2011 to 24 Aug 2026, with the dated events of record marked. Every cycle peak and every drawdown figure below is measured from that series, not recalled.

Now put the two halves together and be strict about it. The transits in section 2 are real; the prices and dates in this section are real; and the temptation to draw a line between them is enormous. Pluto crossed the natal Sun through the Mt. Gox collapse. The only Jupiter return in the record falls eleven months before the 2021 cycle peak, at the start of the run into it. Written down like that it reads as evidence.

It is not, and we know it is not, because we did the arithmetic instead of the rhetoric. There are 209 passages in this sweep. Across a sixteen-year record containing four full boom-and-bust cycles, something slow is always in orb of something natal — that is a property of having ten natal planets and five slow transiting bodies, not a property of Bitcoin. Pick any dramatic week and a transit is available to explain it. That is the mechanism by which financial astrology always sounds right afterwards, and it is why the test in section 5 was pre-registered before the price series was ever joined to a transit.

5. What we do not claim

Everything above is interpretation: the reading a working astrologer would produce from this chart, done properly and with the sky computed rather than remembered. None of it is evidence that any of it works. On that question we have an actual answer, and the answer is no.

So the position of this site, stated as plainly as we can: we find these charts genuinely interesting, and our own testing says they do not predict price movements. Both halves are true at once, and we would rather publish both than pick the profitable one. As far as we know nobody else publishes the reading and the evidence against it on the same site, which seems like a poor state of affairs for a field this old.
